I’ve been watching some of the videos from the treasure trove that is the McCord Museum, and in this one about Fancy Dress balls, a few things:

-No one knew what vikings looked like

-Even in Victorian times people were trying to make Canadians give a shit about their own history

-the “Incroyable” the Adult Babies (“Our Nurse Nannie”), and the “harlequin” with the MASSIVE mutton chops are great

but most of all

-Someone is dressed as “Tennis” and another as “Photography”

Costume balls of that period were awesome! I would have loved to party with the guys who all did ‘Our Nurse Nanny’, haha!

My fave is the Ren Portuguese soldier in tights. That guy must’ve been uncomfortable…

I get mad at things a lot, and occasionally I make things like scarves, costumes, and graphics. Obsessions include Corgis, Mass Effect, and Sherlock. Currently in university studying to become Indiana Jones while keeping my (actual) OCD under control.
